"Food doesn’t go into your heart, but only passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.” (By saying this, he declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God’s eyes.)20 And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you.21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.
23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
The highlighted phrase really resonated with me. These disgusting and filthy things we do or want to do first appear in us through our thoughts. Even if we do not do the action of what we desire to do, we have sinned by even thinking those things because it is that abominable in the sight of the Lord. And in addition to that, these "vile things come from within" ourselves, meaning that there is no escaping it. That it is in our being to innately be sinful. This brings me to Adam and Eve. They began original sin, right? Right. So since their sin followed them, it followed their children, and their children's children, and their children's children...I guess you get the idea. We are the children of Adam and Eve. Adam, the first man. Eve, the first woman. We are children of God. But because of Adam and Eve's sin, they forfeited our right to be God's legitimate children. And because of that, we in turn have been impregnated with sin and are innately wicked. If you look up 'wicked' in Webster's Dictionary, the word 'evil' does come up. So we are evil. People always think that evil only exists in movies, or comic books, or terrorism and child killers. However, evil exists in all of us. We are all capable of harming one another and we have all probably done so without even realizing it.
I didn't mean to digress, I just wanted to point out that evil exists inside of us. But there is a remedy, one remedy, The Only One: Jesus Christ.
Just food for thought.
